You cannot connect to your Fixed Wireless connection.
What are some of the common reasons you cannot connect?
You may encounter a number of issues that can prevent you from connecting to your Fixed Wireless service.
One common issue with nbn Fixed Wireless connections is that outages or network issues may prevent you from connecting. Your nbn connection box or Network Termination Device (NTD) might have cabling issues, or you might be dealing with a router configuration issue.
There’s also a chance you have an outstanding payment with your provider; for new customers, your service might not yet be activated. In this case, check for an activation email or reach out to your provider.
How can you troubleshoot a connection that is not working?
Start by checking your NTD’s indicator lights, including the outdoor unit (labelled ‘ODU’ on the NTD) and ‘STATUS’ LED lights. If these lights are yellow or red, please check for outages, then contact your provider as necessary.
If the indicator lights appear normal, perform a full power cycle routine: turn off your NTD and router for two to three minutes, then power on your NTD. Wait 15 seconds and turn on your router. Once this is done, wait two more minutes for your connection to be back online.
Check for network outages or weather disruptions, as external factors may interrupt service.
Lastly, try plugging your device directly into the router via an ethernet or network cable and perform another full power cycle. When all else fails, Skymesh customers can reach out to our technical support team.
Your Fixed Wireless connection is slow.
What are some of the common reasons your Fixed Wireless connection is slow?
nbn Fixed Wireless plans come in different speed tiers, with different maximum upload and download speeds. This is called the Potential Maximum Information Rate.
Each plan also has a minimum assured speed of 12 Mbps download and 1 Mbps download speeds. Plus, if you exceed your data allowance, the information rate of your service will be limited by Skymesh to no more than 256/256 kbps for the remainder of the billing period.
Is your nbn Fixed Wireless slow? Slower Fixed Wireless data speeds might stem from various causes.
Equipment faults and signal issues with your NTD can significantly drag down your internet speed. Sometimes, using certain applications like streaming services or downloading updates for games, software or torrents can affect your connection.
nbn Fixed Wireless congestion could be another cause. Using multiple devices simultaneously can lead to service reduction due to fair use policy management, particularly during peak hours such as the evening.
Severe weather conditions are another external factor that may impact your Fixed Wireless connection.
How can you troubleshoot a slow connection?
You can use several methods to troubleshoot a slow connection and improve Fixed Wireless latency & performance.
Start by performing a full power cycle routine, as explained above. If this doesn’t resolve the issue, consider plugging your device directly into the NTD to isolate the Customer Premise Equipment (CPE).
Check your speed by conducting a speed test through your internet provider’s dashboard or this online speed test tool.
Another tactic is to test the internet using another device; if the second device shows better performance, the issue might be due to your device’s hardware capabilities, such as whether they use 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz bands. It could also be an issue because of the distance from your router.
Skymesh customers who have exceeded their capped data plan allowances will experience limited speeds of 256/256 kbps; unlimited plans, however, don’t have such restrictions.
You can contact Skymesh’s Brisbane-based team if you have additional concerns. Aside from this, you can also manage your Skymesh account online for various needs, including checking data usage and changing plans.
You cannot access some websites on a Fixed Wireless connection.
What are some of the common reasons you can’t access some sites on a Fixed Wireless connection?
There are multiple reasons why specific websites may be inaccessible on a Fixed Wireless connection, not all of which are specific nbn Fixed Wireless problems. High traffic on a particular platform or an issue with the website itself can prevent access. If the platform experiences an overload of users or technical difficulties, these issues aren’t usually within your control to resolve.
Another possibility is that you may have used an incorrect URL, making the site unreachable.
Additionally, your security software might be blocking certain websites or there could be a network-wide outage affecting connectivity.
How can you troubleshoot limited or no access to some websites on a Fixed Wireless connection?
There are a few troubleshooting steps that can help you regain access to websites.
First, check your NTD’s indicator lights, such as those on the outdoor unit and the ‘STATUS’ LED indicator. If these lights are not blinking, reach out to Skymesh for further assistance.
In some cases, some websites might still not be accessible even when the status lights are working. It might be because of DNS issues.
Try clearing your browser’s cookies and cache, as sometimes outdated or corrupted data can prevent websites from loading properly. Switching to a different web browser can also be helpful; for instance, if you are using Google Chrome, try alternatives like Safari, Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge.
Perform a full power cycle routine or plug your device directly into the router to see if the issue resolves.
If none of these steps work, it might be time to seek additional support. We recommend contacting Skymesh for assistance. Our team will be happy to assist you with your concerns.
Key points to remember
- Check your NTD and router. Ensure your NTD’s indicator lights are working correctly, as they can point to connectivity or equipment issues. Turn off your NTD, router and devices for a few minutes, then restart them to refresh the connection.
- Check for external issues. Weather events or network outages can disrupt service. Always check your provider’s service status page if you’re facing problems with nbn Fixed Wireless.
- Reduce device load. Too many devices using the network simultaneously can slow down your internet. Disconnect unnecessary devices during peak times.
- Turn off your VPN. VPN settings can interfere with speeds or access to certain websites. Temporarily disable your VPN to see if it improves performance.
- Check your browser and security settings. Some websites may be blocked by your browser settings or security software. Clear cookies, switch browsers or adjust security settings to resolve access issues.
- Contact Skymesh technical support. When all else fails, Skymesh support is available to provide additional assistance.
