**Device Payment Plan

To use the service, you will need a Skymesh-supplied device and SIM. The 4G Modem costs $264 and the 5G Modem costs $888. However, we will cover the cost of the device if you remain connected for 24 months on a Device Payment Plan (DPP). During the 24-month term of the DPP, your monthly device payments ($11 for the 4G Modem and $37 for the 5G Modem) will be reduced by a prorated, monthly credit.

You will need to remain on an eligible access plan for the term of your DPP. If you cancel your eligible plan or move to an ineligible plan before the expiry of your DPP, your DPP will be cancelled and you’ll need to pay out the remaining device payments in full, as a once-of payment), and any applicable device credits or discounts will be forfeited. This is subject to your Australian Consumer Law rights.

The Remaining Device Payment Fee is calculated as the monthly fee for the device multiplied by the number of remaining months. For example, if you were to cancel with 6 months remaining on the DPP for the Home 4G Modem, the fee would be calculated as $11/month x 6 months which is $66.

The Great Debate Settled By : 4G Vs 5G

Diving into the debate of 5G vs nbn®? At Skymesh, with over two decades of expertise and as nbn’s leading specialised regional internet service provider, we understand the dilemma of finding a suitable internet connection for Australian households.

But how does 5G fare as an alternative to nbn® connections? Read along. This is the nbn® vs 5G comparison you’re looking for.

What is 5G, and how does it compare to nbn®?

When you’re looking for the best 5G home internet, it’s essential to understand its nuances and how it stands in comparison to nbn®. Here are the main differences between nbn® vs 5G internet connections:

5G vs nbn® connection types

If you’ve ever wondered about 5G vs nbn® plans, it’s worth noting that 5G home wireless internet is designed as an alternative to traditional wired broadband connections. Here, there’s also no need for a dish or antenna.

It operates by relying on a 5G network tower, which uses radio waves to transmit data. To experience 5G reliability, your home would need a 5G modem. This device captures the signal and transmits it to your internet gateway, offering internet access for your household.

On the other hand, nbn® offers different types of internet solutions. At Skymesh, depending on the location, we can connect households to the nbn® network through different connection types:

  • Fixed line connection: Uses high-speed fibre optic cables to deliver fast broadband to your premises. nbn® uses a mix of different technologies across Australia. These service types include Fibre to the Premises (FTTP), Fibre to the Building (FTTB), Fibre to the Node (FTTN), Fibre to the Curb (FTTC), and Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC).
  • Fixed wireless connection: Uses radio signals and outdoor antennas to wirelessly connect your premises to an nbn® network.
  • Sky Muster™ satellite connection: Uses two cutting-edge satellites in space and a satellite dish installed on your roof to give you connectivity.

Speed dynamics

5G business internet and home wireless plans come in different speed tiers. At Skymesh, we offer two 5G Home Wireless plans, one with typical download speeds of up to 50 Mbps and the other with typical download speeds of up to 100 Mbps. Both of our 5G plans come with unlimited data.

In contrast, the upload and download speeds for nbn® plans vary based on the connection type and the chosen speed tier.

Just to give you an example, we can look at the different nbn® fibre plans we offer at Skymesh. With the nbn® 25 tier, users can enjoy typical evening speeds of up to 25 Mbps download and up to 4 Mbps upload between 7.00 p.m. and 11.00 p.m. On the other hand, the nbn® 50 plan offers typical evening speeds of up to 49 Mbps download and up to 16 Mbps upload in the same timeframe.

Lastly, our nbn® 100 plan can deliver typical evening speeds of up to 96 Mbps download and up to 16 Mbps upload between 7.00 p.m. and 11.00 p.m.

5G speed can be influenced by certain factors, such as your proximity to the tower and the number of concurrent users. Similarly, nbn® performance will vary, typically depending on factors like proximity to infrastructure and the technologies used. For instance, in fibre plans, the cable quality and hardware may affect the speed.

nbn® vs 5G cost

5G home wireless plans may be more affordable than certain nbn® plans.

However, the exact difference in cost between 5G vs nbn® depends on the speed tier, the connection type, and the service provider. If you’re looking for a plan that will work with your budget, data, and speed requirements, check your address on our site to know your options.

Moreover, our Brisbane-based team of experts is ready to help you compare the plans available on your premises.

Do I need a new modem for 5G if I have nbn®?
